At Holy Trinity Doncaster and St John’s Blackburn, we believe that the young adult period is a critical and transformative stage of life. It is a time when we arrive at many different intersections and ask crucial questions about identity, relationships, careers, family, and life goals.
We believe that God is the creator of this world, and we have been made in His image (Genesis 1:27). Therefore, we should all turn to God and let the Spirit work in our hearts to find the truth and ‘the truth will set you free’ (John 8:32).
What is the truth that we hold unswervingly to? We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; His death and resurrection have brought about freedom from sin and eternal life. Whoever belongs to the Son is set free and has received righteousness, forgiveness and the peace of being united with God again (John 3:16). As images of God, we believe that we can find our highest freedom through living a life according to God’s will from his Word.
Our goal is to help young adults come to know Jesus through the faithful teaching of the Word of God in prayerful community with one another. We hope to attain this goal whilst also enjoying ourselves through activities, food, friendship, and other lots of fun.
We run Growth Groups on Wednesday nights, where all our young adults come together at Holy Trinity Doncaster. We start with a meal at 7 p.m., then gather in groups to read God’s Word from 7.45 p.m. onwards. As each part of the Body of Christ grows in Christlikeness, we would like to encourage every member to cultivate a ministry mindset to serve in various church ministries (e.g., youth, kids, welcoming, hospitality, etc.).
We also run Christianity Explored and God’s Big Picture courses on Wednesday nights at Holy Trinity Doncaster. Whether you are exploring Christianity or are completely new to the church, we warmly welcome you to come and find out more about Jesus and for God to make Himself known to you.
Our church is committed to training young adults to grow in their character, conviction, and competency in serving God. We entrust God’s Word to reliable people to teach others (2 Timothy 2). We run training programs for ministry leaders and we are also partnered with Ministry Training Strategy (MTS) to facilitate and encourage individuals to consider ministry apprenticeships.
God intends that ‘through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms’ (Eph 3:10). We believe in the importance of the church itself as the gathering of God’s people and the fellowship that we share in Jesus Christ. As a church, we break bread and are committed to gathering with one another, and we extend that fellowship through various fellowship meals across the week. Whether this is through our weekly post-church dinners and hangouts or our mid-week gatherings and growth groups, there are many opportunities to connect with others in our community. Our young adults love to hang out, and we highly encourage them to spend time with one another to share and be prayerful in love.
‘For the Word of God is alive and active…’ (Hebrews 4:12), so we rely on the Word of God in our discipleship. Numerous young adults at our church read the Bible with one another in discipleship relationships throughout the week. One-on-one discipleship is an excellent way to deepen relationships with God and one another, spurring each other on in prayers and accountability.
We believe that men and women are made in God’s image and God has called His design to be good (Genesis 1:27). At our church, we support both men and women to serve in various ministries so that we may develop and show Christlike humility and glorify God in an integrated, complementary way. Whether in teaching, leading, or serving, we desire to see everyone flourish in their faith.
Our church is part of the glorious universal church of Christ. We encourage our young adults to actively participate in various parachurch organisations and conferences to share fellowship and hear God’s Word preached alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ outside our church walls. We are well connected with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES), Power to Change, Entrust Women’s Conference, Nation Training Events (NTE), Engage Conference, Christian Missionary Society (CMS), Ridley College, and many other mission organisations.
